CHRIST IS THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD

CHRIST THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD George Fox’s letter Christ is the Light of The World , was written in 1654 and can be found at the end of Canby Jones’ edition of the pastoral letters – after letter 420. Dr. Jones writes: In my judgment this is one of Fox’s most beautiful and inspiring letters and ranks with the best of those which were printed in the 1698 edition of Fox’s Epistles. The most moving paragraphs in it are those which deal with the multiple ways in which we can experience the presence of God and Christ within. GOD AND CHRIST ARE NEAR Lord God Almighty and His Son walk in our  midst and delights to do us good. CHRIST THE LIGHT IS WITHIN Christ is the Light of the world and enlightens every person who comes into the world. Christ the Light shines in darkness. Christ the Light is the Way, Truth, and Life. He is the way to the Father. He quickens us, gives us life. If we wait, stand still in Him, we will receive Him; He will discover sin and evil in us and...

A Universal God is one who is knowable to all persons. Access to this God also is available to all, male and female, young and old, rich and poor, with dark or light skin. No intermediary is necessary, just the individual and God. All we have to do is pay careful attention to that which is pure in us and it will guide us to God.       God is concerned for all people, not limited by sectarian considerations.  John Woolman a seventeenth century Quaker Mystic wrote "I found no narrowness respecting sects and opinions, but believed that upright-hearted people in every Society who truly loved God were accepted of him." INDIVIDUAL: God LOVES EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US God loves everyone.  But He also loves each of us the BEST.  Who does he love the BEST.  Me, myself and I.  He loves me the best.  How is this possible?  If I have three children and love each one of them the best, it is an easy thing for God to do. ...

Immortal, invisible, God only wise 1 Immortal, invisible, God only wise, In light inaccessible hid from our eyes, Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days, Almighty, victorious, Thy great name we praise. 2 Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light, Nor wanting, nor wasting, Thou rulest in might; Thy justice like mountains high soaring above Thy clouds which are fountains of goodness and love. 3 To all life Thou givest, to both great and small; In all life Thou livest, the true life of all; We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree, And wither and perish, but nought changeth Thee. 4 Great Father of Glory, pure Father of Light Thine angels adore Thee, all veiling their sight; All laud we would render, O help us to see: ’Tis only the splendor of light hideth Thee. 5 Immortal, invisible, God only wise, In light inaccessible hid from our eyes, Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient o...
Some Questions about GOD WHAT ABOUT CALLING GOD HE? The English language is wonderful, but doesn't have an adequate pronoun for God, Almighty, Omnipotent, Everlasting, Holy, Pure and Perfect.  Some Friends call God Father and He while others are more comfortable calling God Mother and She. But God is neither male nor female. God is spirit, invisible and radically different from us. We diminish Him (Her) when we create God in our own image, instead of being created in His (Her).  God is Creator, Living, Life, not a tiny, inadequate God too much like ourselves.   God wants genuine equality for men and women. They work together as helpmeets in marriage. WHO MADE GOD AND WHERE DID HE COME FROM?       When Moses asks God who He is, in the King James version of the Bible God says, "I am that I am."  In the Septuagint version God says, "I am he who is." In one of his Narnia tales C. S. Lewis translates this phrase as, "I am my...

GOD CREATOR AND LORD OF ALL THINGS

CREATOR LIVING GOD Another name for Creator is Living God. God is the  creator of  the universe and this creation reveals His incredible power.  But Fox just mentions in passing the creation of the world, how God divided the great sea from the land and the light from the darkness.  What really interests him is that creation continues each day. God is interested in and involved in these day to day changes. God causes the snow to melt and the rain to water the plants. He causes a spring to break out of the rocks.   What I especially like is that Fox writes that God created the sun just to warm us when we are cold.    This living God brings spring each year with new plants and grass. He causes the trees and crops to grow; He makes the fishes of the sea to breathe and live.
